Mid-rotation in Sioux Lookout

Sorry for the late update! It's been quite a busy time for us Katimavik volunteers. We have less than a month here in Sioux Lookout and time is flying! Here is a quick update on what has happened within the last two months. We have volunteered at events, visited museums, hung out with new friends from town, spent dinners with our work partners and host families, had our billeting week and our 72 hours off, did clean ups around town, went to a Pow Wow, and much more! We are starting to create our own moccasins at the moment. So, stay tuned for our final product!

The Dryden & District Museum - The group traveled to Dryden for a mini excursion

 The girl third from the left (Migwin) decided to invite us Katimavik volunteers to celebrate her birthday on April 20th. We had a great time playing "Capture the Flag". Happy belated birthday, Migwin.

Also, the girl second from the left (Christine) had celebrated her birthday on April 8. She is a very valuable member in our group! Happy belated birthday, girl!

Sharon Yule is the Volunteer Coordinator at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre.

She was very nice to invite a few Katimavik volunteers over for dinner and go for a boat ride in the beautiful lakes of Sioux Lookout!

First Week in Sioux Lookout

Our first week in Sioux Lookout has been an eye-opener for a lot of the members in the group. When we flew over to the city, we only saw trees and lakes. It was a beautiful sight. We are separated into two homes, but they aren't far from one another. Our new project leader, Erin, has been very kind and welcoming. As you can see, we have went to do low ropes and on the same week, we also visited our work partners. Everything is Sioux Lookout is very close to one each. So this following week, we either walk or bike to work everyday. The new adventure begins!

Notre premiere semaine a Sioux-Lookout ouvra les yeux a plusieurs membres dans le groupe sur le paysages. Quand nous avons volé au dessus de la ville nous n'avons vue que des arbres et des lacs. Ce fut une très belle vue. Nous sommes séparé dans deux différentes maisons, mais elle ne sont pas loin l'une de l'autre. Notre nouvelle agente de projet, Érin, a été très aceuillante et gentille avec nous dès notre arrivé. Comme vous pouvez voir, nous avons fait de l'hébertisme dans la même semaine. Nous avons aussi visité nos partenaires de travail. Tout dans Sioux Lookout est près, nous marchons ou prenons des velos pour aller travailler tout les jours. La nouvelle aventure commence!!!!

Second Rotation: Sioux Lookout, Ontario

Hello Sioux Lookout! The ten remaining Katimavik group members have arrived safe and sound after four flights to Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout. Twas a tiring day indeed, but we are going to enjoy every moment of our experience! This is our last rotation in this program and we are going to be history! Katima-dinner / Farewell Dinner for Jolyane & Jojo

On March 26, the Katimavik group had a delicious dinner at the Gahan House Pub Brewery and Mercantile. We also had farewell cards for our loved members, Jolyane (our project leader) and Jojo (Katima-member). Their energy, laughter and presence will be very missed! Katimalove :)
